TuxMobil - Linux on Laptops, Notebooks, PDAs and Mobile Phones

Kubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft on a HP Compaq NX 7400 (RH387EA)

Installation

The installation works wuthout any hassles. Nearly all works "out of the Box". Never before, i saw such a simple installation of Linux on a notebook. But also here isn't all perfect: The WLAN module and the corresponding key for WLAN and Blueooth on the notebook didn't worked.
All other components including sound & graphic were detected and configured correctly. Also the bluetooth module had worked, but was blocked by the non-working WLAN driver. All special keys worked also instantly. While pressing the Volume control key, an OSD will shown on the screen.

Configuration

WLAN

The built-in WLAN module is based on a Broadcom chip (bcm43xx), which free linux driver were in early stages of devlopment at this time. I installe bcm43xx-cutter and te firmware, but WLAN didn't worked.

After this unsuccessful tries, I tried out the ndiswrapper package. Ndiswrapper is a kernel module, which makes it possible to use WLAN drivers from Windows. The version of the wrapper, wich was provided by Edgy Eft didn't worked with the Broadcom-Driver, so I downloaded the source code of the current Ndiswrapper version. After compilation of the module I tried it again. And what should I say ? Works. WLAN module, the key on the notebook and now also bluetooth.

Misc.

The built-in softmodem and the PC-Card-Slot I couldn't test. The microphone plug didn't work.
