Scanner Epson ScanJet 3300C
The ScanJet 3300C is a some years old USB flatbed scanner with a physical resolution of 600 dpi. You need the SANE backend "niash" to get the scanner work under linux. This backend is an official part of SANE since August 2004 (Version 1.0.15). An installation from source sould today not more neseccary. Every actual distribution delivers a more or less current version of SANE. Unfortunaly, the two buttons at the front of the scanner doens't work.
The backend has a little bug (I think, it's the backend, because I red some similar bugreports already): At the previewscan or at the scan of a whole page, the scanner produces a loud crack, as the scanner sled tries, to move over the end of the run rail.
Because SANE works network transparent, it's possible to use a scanner over the network. This work also very well with this device. A very good howto for Ubuntu/Kubuntu you find at http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/SANE.
