Küstrin was till 1945 a city in the Mark Brandenburg (Neumark). Through the new borders after the second world war, it was splitted:
- Kostrzyn (former Küstrin-Neustadt) in Poland
- the former city of Küstrin (not rebuilt after the war).
- Küstriner Vorland (includes Küstrin-Kietz) in Germany.
The name of Küstrin (legend)
As the city was built, the founder did'nt know, how you shoul call the city, and they thought a long time about it; then someone suggested, that the whole municipal council sould sit down outside the portal of the city, and take the name of the person, which goes at first through the portal. It was done. The municipal council went outside the city and waits; there came a young girl and you ask her for her name and she asnwered: I'm Küster's Trin. So the city was named Küstrin from now.
